So late to the game, but can't wait to devour this book.
Bonus: Perfect addition to my office side table.
As I mentioned last week we celebrated Player's b-day a few weekends ago. As part of his gift I arranged for us to go visit his best friend and his wife in Richmond. This was exciting because we don't get to see them that often, and because they have a new baby we had not met. yay babies! Leading up to this trip, Player discovered a new game sweeping the internet called Footgolf. If you aren't familiar, this game is played like golf and on a golf course, but with a soccer ball. Courses are popping up all over as a way for courses to recoup some revenue on unused courses or just places that aren't as popular as they once were. Player was thrilled to hear about this marriage of sports as he was a big soccer player back in the day, but didn't love the whole running part. And likes the pace and surroundings of golf, but not so great at it. This would give him an avenue to use his "semi-nuclear weapon of a right quadricept" to defeat the opposition. As it turns out, the new baby girl is the chillest baby I know, so we all went for a walk on the footgolf course.
Some major action happening on the course...and this is the sweetest baby not impressed.
So much bro'ing.
They ended up in a tie and are actively pursuing sponsorship to make the dream of professional footgolfer a reality.
We spent the rest of the weekend just catching up and staring at this, which is just amazing. Both that she sleeps so peacefully and that we know people who are old enough to care for another human.
In honor of my alma mater playing the no. 1 team in the country tomorrow I decided it was high time to show them some love. If I had the good fortune of being inside Carter Finley tomorrow I would wear a little something like this. It always gets hard to dress around this time of year in NC, especially for a 3:30 game. Cold in the morning, hot by noon and chilly again by 6. Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful day for football and all I can say is go pack.
This one's for you AJB.
There are few things in this world I love more than a Matthew McConaughey impression, or just the man himself. I could listen to him talk nonsense for hours. These new Lincoln commercials are so weird and wonderful that I will actually stop fast forwarding to watch them. Ellen totally nailed a bit with them this week.
Matt Damon's McCaughey is one of my favorites.
I'm thinking it's about time I jumped on the gallery wall band wagon. I've acquired a few abstract prints that I already have framed, but I need a few more before my collection is complete. Here are a few prints I've been coveting from around the internets.
Top knots and navy stripes are a few of my favorite things from Design Darling.
Gotta have a ginger jar.
Must have some Inslee.
It appears I have some contrasting themes, maybe I need two galleries.
I realized a couple months ago that I was spending a ridiculous amount of money on makeup. I sit in an office most of the day and average seeing about 3 different people a day, none of which care about my makeup situation. I used to get up every morning and do the whole face with the good stuff (i.e. Bobbi Brown and Benefit) and I decided thats no longer necessary and down right expensive. What you see below is now my go to "everyday" makeup. It's fresh, clean, perfect for the office, and comes in at around $50 for everything. I still keep the good stuff for date nights and the like, but these swaps save a ton. I can't live without these face wipes, and this e.l.f. compact is so close to Nars Orgasm blush I can't even believe it, and it's $3.00. Obviously, the nail polish color here changes with the seasons, but my current obsession is "after school boy blazer." Hope this helps you take some control over your wallet and your makeup bag.
This is happening at Target right now.
I bought these last night and they are a steal at $19.99. So comfy and a fun dip into the fall shopping pool.
Player is back with some helpful talking points for this weekends activities.
Hey ladies, it's Friday again - which is a great thing for most Americans - unless you're a girl dreading your sports obligations for the weekend. You already know what amazing outfit you're gonna wear, and you're excited about that. But you at least need to show/fake some type of engagement in the game itself so that you're not type cast into the amazingly dressed, yet stuck up girl that's too good for football. Here's another tip:
Small sayings will save you. A well-dressed woman can totally dismiss snooty status by simply uttering appropriately timed football comments. For example:
Situation: Anytime a quarterback is sacked (tackled before they have a chance to pass it)
Response: "You gotta throw that away"
Situation: Anytime a player is escorted off the field either by stretcher or by his teammates
Response: "You hate to see that"
Situation: Anytime a flag is thrown or you're aware there is a penalty
Response: "We got laundry"
If all else fails, ask one of the males you're with "What's the spread on this game?" This has to do with gambling - that's all you need to know. You'll most likely get a response that is a number, and at that point you simply nod your head affirmatively. If on the off chance someone replies with more than just a numeric response they're just talking to hear their own voice and sound smart. Once again, the appropriate response is just to nod affirmatively when they're finished talking.
Yay football! Yay ladies that (pretend to) like football!
I always get a little ahead of myself at the first sign of seasons changing. It was a bit chilly one morning last week when I walked out the door and my first thought was, "Can I wear boots tomorrow?" It seems like it's been summer in NC for ages and I'm ready for some crisp weather. We don't have especially harsh winters in Raleigh, but you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at my coat closet. I didn't really know I had a thing for outerwear until all of a sudden it needed a separate closet. And don't get me started on fur, that's another post for another day. H&M really has some great stuff for fall, and especially in the coat department. Great picks below all under $150!
Here are the last of my Spring 2014 RTW faves.
Michael Kors just understands women and function.
I love Rachel Zoe.
And this is your friendly reminder from Lisa Marie Fernandez to keep it tight over this long winter.
Now let's all pull out our coats and sweaters.
