I had so much fun yesterday at Kendra Scott!!
Thanks so much to everyone who came!!
A special thanks to my boyfriend and fearless photographer!
If you don't do anything else next time you're at Southpoint, go visit the Color Bar. I could do this all day.
By far our cutest visitor!
Huge thanks to Kendra Scott at Southpoint for their hospitality and thanks to all who helped support the Boys & Girls Club. Please visit www.wakebgc.org to find out how to get involved! Looking forward to more partnerships with these great organizations!
This was a hard week.
If you're from around here, you've probably heard about the NC native who fell climbing in Jackson, Wyoming this past weekend. Her name was Tyler Strandberg and she was one of my best friends growing up. She passed away on Saturday morning and Wednesday was her 29th birthday. So, instead of a typical visitation, we had a birthday party for her in her grandparents backyard.
It was exactly what Tyler would have wanted, a party.
One of my favorite Tyler memories happened on our senior class trip to NYC. During free time our group of girls decided to visit Century 21 in search of some designer deals. After a bit of shopping most of our group decided they would go back to the hotel and get ready for the show we were seeing that night, but Tyler and I decided to stay and keep shopping. This was slightly against the rules because we were supposed to stay in larger groups, but we thought we could make it back without anyone knowing. Despite all the episodes of Sex and the City we had watched, we knew nothing about New York City. As it turns out we were much further away from the hotel than we thought. We hopped on the subway going in the wrong direction. Had to get off and get back on. We finally ended up at our stop in Times Square and were literally running blocks and blocks to our hotel, in heels of course, because what kind of self respecting SJP fans would we be without heels in NYC. We were both laughing hysterically the whole time and all of a sudden I hear Tyler yell "Joz, oh no!" I turned around because I thought she had fallen, but nope. She was only yelling to let me know she had just peed her pants. We laughed so much we were crying all the way back to the hotel where our whole class was waiting for us. Tyler excused herself to go change her pants and luckily we didn't get in trouble, I think our headmaster just felt bad for us at that point.
Tyler was smart, she was kind, beautiful, fun, and had one of those laughs that just makes you laugh more. She's probably really mad we've all been crying so much. It's just really hard not to when you lose someone so young who was loving life so much. Tyler moved to Jackson after college and became an even more beautiful version of the Tyler I knew, which I didn't even know was possible. With help from God and the Tetons, she found a love for herself and her life that she so desperately deserved to find. Her mom remarked that even knowing what she knows now, she would still send her out there because it was the greatest thing she ever did. That kind of strength and peace is only available through faith in God and his timing. I pray for that kind of strength and peace for all of us, knowing that God is sovereign and his plans are perfect. I cannot wait to see Tyler again and hear that laugh. Until then, I want to live my life with the kind of love and adventure that Tyler did. I want to love people better and I want to have some fun. Our time here is short and going through the motions is not enough. I want to find my Jackson and go climb some mountains, knowing that even if I fall, God is still good. I'm going to leave you with this picture because it cracks me up every time I see it. Tyler and our only NYC celebrity sighting, Christian Slater.
love you, ty.
Please come help support The Boys & Girls Club with me at the beautiful Kendra Scott store at the Streets at Southpoint next Sunday, August 30th from 1-3pm! I'm so excited to partner with both of these organizations and hope to see you there!!
The Kendra Scott store at Southpoint is gorgeous. It's like walking into the best jewelry closet you've ever seen. I could stay there all day. One of my favorite things is their Color Bar. You can choose from any piece you want - earrings, necklace, bracelets, etc. Then choose your metal and ANY color combination right from the touch screen in the store below. Then they make your piece right there on the spot. The possibilities are endless and so much fun!
So come visit me and this amazing store on Sunday, August 30th from 1-3pm. Even if you can't buy anything, I want to see you there! We will have sips, sweets, a raffle for one of my favorite KS items and much more! If you are in the market for some new jewels, Kendra Scott is so generous in donating 20% of all proceeds from this event to the Boys & Girls Club. I'm so happy to be a part of supporting their Back to School Drive and all the fantastic work they are doing in the Triangle. If you can't make it please choose something on this list to contribute to their Back to School drive and/or visit wakebgc.org to find other ways to get involved!
Welcome to the blog formerly known as j chase.
I can't believe it's been a year since I started blogging. It really started as just an outlet for me to feel creative, connected, and inspired. This space has definitely provided that outlet for me, and as I've stuck with it, great opportunities have started to come my way. One of those being an event with Kendra Scott at the end of the month. A friend of a friend asked me to get involved to help support the Boys and Girls Club along with Kendra Scott, and that was the exact push I needed to commit to changing this blog from just a platform for my personal ramblings to creating a brand dedicated to sharing my take on all things style. With that change comes a new look, and a new name. In the words of Holly Golightly,
"If I could find a real life place that'd make me feel like Tiffany's, then I'd buy some furniture and give the cat a name."
While this space doesn't quite feel like Tiffany's, I am, in fact, giving the cat a name.
The story of the name itself is kind of long and weird, but I'm going to tell you anyway. The phrase Truffle Season is found in the old classic Suit and Tie by Justin Timberlake and Jay Z. If you know me, you know that Justin Timberlake is life. It's in the middle of Jay's rap verse where he drops the bomb, "This is truffle season. Tom Ford tuxedos for no reason."
Not long after the release of this anthem, my boyfriend and I were discussing dinner one night, and we decided on sesame crusted tuna, as one does. Fun fact: We found out that black and white sesame seeds mixed together are called "tuxedo seeds." When we found these at the grocery store we almost simultaneously exclaimed, "This is truffle season - tuxedo seeds for no reason," because apparently we're those people. Truffle Season kind of became a phrase for us that was synonymous with living in style daily and the attitude of "Treat yo'self." Should I wear sequins on a tuesday? Sure, it's truffle season. Should I buy this vintage Halston gown? duh, it's truffle season. Should I wear that gown on the couch and eat chinese food out of the container? you know it, it's truffle season.
So when I started thinking about names for the blog, Truffle Season was the first thing to come to mind. I thought about other options, but I just couldn't shake Truffle Season. This space is going to be filled with things that are part of my year round "Truffle Season", be it the latest clothes off the runway, the best food I've ever eaten, the coolest places I visit, or the new show I'm watching on Netflix.
I hope you'll join me and in case you haven't figured it out...
